Biology Assistant Professor

Job Description

Position Summary

The faculty member shall be responsible for the following: teaching assigned classes under the supervision of the area dean; helping students fulfill their maximum potential in mastering course content; assessing student learning outcomes; maintaining a thorough and up-to-date knowledge in their academic discipline; continuing professional development; utilizing current technology in the performance of job duties; maintaining standards of professional conduct and ethics appropriate to the professional position; assisting with articulation and curriculum development and review; serving on college committees and participating in faculty governance, assisting with the creation, collection and/or maintenance of Open Educational Resource (OER) materials; fulfilling other duties and responsibilities of a full-time faculty member as assigned by the area dean and as outlined in the college faculty handbook. 

The Biology department at Cosumnes River College is dedicated to providing a rigorous academic experience in a supportive and equitable learning environment. Position Salary Information:
Initial maximum salary placement is based on academic degree, upper/graduate level units earned, and/or related professional occupational experience per the Los Rios College Federation of Teachers Contract (the initial maximum placement is Class V, Step 8). Typical Duties

The instructional assignment may include, but is not limited to, teaching lecture and laboratory courses in:

  • Human Anatomy and Physiology (Biology 430, Biology 431)
  • Cadaver Dissection (Biology 439)
 The transfer-level courses in anatomy and physiology are primarily intended for students preparing for nursing, sonography, dental hygiene, or other programs in the healthcare field, and will include the study of human cadavers.

Additional instructional assignments may include, but are not limited to, one or more of the following biology courses:
  • Essentials of Human Anatomy and Physiology (Biology 102) 
  • Contemporary Biology (Biology 308) 

The instructional assignment may include day, evening, online, hybrid, and/or weekend classes offered on the main campus or at the Elk Grove Center.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Have a master’s degree in any biological science; OR bachelor’s degree in any biological science AND Master’s in biochemistry, biophysics, or marine science; OR the equivalent*. All degrees must be from an accredited institution completed by time of hire. 
  2. Have an equity-minded focus, responsiveness, and sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical or learning disabilities as it relates to differences in learning styles; and successfully foster and support an inclusive educational and employment environment.
