Job Summary
The Digital Publications Assistant reports to both the library and publications department and is charged with creating and implementing a sustainable in-house digitization workflow and digital publications distribution plan, as well as improving access to the Clark publication backlist and outside born-digital and digitized material. This is a full-time, 18-month, term-limit project position, with the possibility of an extension pending appropriate funding.
Duties/Responsibilities
Library
- Establish best practices and workflows for digitization of library and archives material including copyright compliance, file specifications, quality assurance, image processing, and metadata creation or editing as needed.
- Ensure proper care and handling of fragile or damaged materials.
- Advise on digital collection development policies for both open access material and purchased content and the implementation of controlled digital lending procedures.
- Create project documentation and training materials for other library staff and interns.
- Other relevant duties as needed or required.
Publications
- Research publication and copyright status of Clark-published backlist/out-of-print titles.
- Propose and execute a plan for digitization of backlist titles and newly digitized materials.
- Evaluate and assist with relevant digital distribution for books and other materials.
- Consult and coordinate with managing editor and rights and image editor on intellectual property issues related to publication digitization.
- Potentially assist with Bloomberg App relative to the Publications Department editorial and project management.

Required Skills/Abilities
- Familiarity with library operations and/or publishing industry.
- Knowledge of relevant copyright regulations.
- Significant knowledge of and facility with various digitization tools and issues.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
- Demonstrated cultural competency skills; demonstrated commitment to the values of diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility.
Education, Training and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required.
- Master’s degree or equivalent, or current enrollment in a master’s program preferred.
- 1-2 years’ relevant experience required.

- Physical Demands:
- Ability to sit at a desk/workstation and use a computer for prolonged periods of time.
- Ability to lift up to 20 pounds occasionally
- Work Environment: Work will be performed in an office/library environment and museum spaces. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate. Some overnight travel may be necessary.
