Job Summary: This nine-month part time position is responsible for assisting in the strategic direction which supports student learning in the nursing lab setting, including nursing simulation. This includes, but not limited to: assisting with skills instruction; guidance in skills practice and clinical prep, student remediation in clinical deficiencies, maintenance & organization of nursing labs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Related duties may be assigned.

Instructional Lab
  • Assist in clinical skill instruction for the nursing program.
  • Coordinate and facilitate annual Boot Camp activities.
  • Instruct students in the proper use of lab equipment where appropriate.
  • Assist with supply and equipment inventory where appropriate.
  • Assist in short-range and long-range planning for the nursing lab.
  • Collaborate with the nursing simulation and lab coordinator to compose and assemble props needed for patient scenarios such as but not limited to wounds, dressings, bodily fluids, and equipment.
  • Maintain competency and implement evidenced-based practice by performing literature searches, attending workshops or conferences on patient simulation/nursing skills.
  • Coordinate and support nursing skills laboratory activities in conjunction with full time faculty.
  • Tutor students in lab and clinical skills including scheduled appointments and walk ins.
  • Monitor students’ practice of skills and maintains record of attendance during open skills lab hours.
  • Provide support and assistance to practicing students during open lab hours.
  • Assist coordinator to maintain documentation of utilization of simulation and laboratories.
  • Monitor equipment and ensures clean and working condition.
  • Ensure cleanliness and organization of the open skills lab and simulation lab.
  • Dispose of sharps and hazardous waste as per safety guideline procedures.
  • Coordinate ordering process and distribution of nursing student supply kits.
  • Assist with simulation activities as directed by coordinator.
 
Related Duties
  • Keep informed of current trends and development in the nursing profession.
  • Maintain student records and submit to appropriate individuals
  • Maintain communication with peers and serves as a resource in area of clinical specialization.
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications
  • Active IL Registered Nurse License
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
  • Demonstrated competence in nursing practice with minimum two years of recent clinical experience in the acute care setting
  • Minimum one year nursing education experience or equivalent required (training and development in a clinical setting)
  • Minimum two years clinical experience in adult medical surgical nursing

Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge and experience in nursing simulation
  • Commitment to the mission of the community college
  • Experience or expertise working with simulation equipment

Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in a medical lab setting.
