Director of Finance and HR
Are you a skilled financial and HR leader with a passion for animal welfare? Do you excel in a dynamic environment where your expertise drives both strategic and day-to-day operations? If so, Citizens for Animal Protection (CAP) is seeking a dedicated Director of Finance and HR to join our team.
In this role, you’ll be at the core of our nonprofit organization, overseeing critical financial and human resource functions that support our mission to protect and care for animals. As a key member of our leadership team, you’ll ensure fiscal responsibility, drive HR initiatives, and foster a culture of quality across our organization.
What You’ll Do:
As the Director of Finance and HR, your responsibilities will span across financial management and human resources, including:
- Leading Your Team: Supervise Accounts Payable, Payroll, Accounts Receivable staff, Facilities and Pet Supply sales, ensuring adherence to financial/organizational policies and fostering a positive, motivated work environment.
- Financial Oversight: Manage all accounting functions, including budgeting, reporting to the Board, and leading the annual audit process. Your expertise in QuickBooks Online and financial analysis will be crucial in driving CAP’s fiscal health.
- HR Leadership: Oversee payroll, benefits programs, recruitment, and employee development initiatives. You’ll be responsible for maintaining HR records, managing the employee handbook, and ensuring compliance with HR policies.
- Strategic Collaboration: Work closely with the Executive Director, Board, and Shelter Director to align financial and HR strategies with CAP’s mission and goals. Your role will also involve administering CAP’s insurance programs and managing the donor database.

Who You Are:
- Experienced: You hold a Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, HR, or a related field, with at least 5 years of experience in nonprofit financial management. CPA certification and/or an MBA are highly valued.
- Leadership-Driven: You have a strong background in team management, with a proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop staff.
- Financially Savvy: You’re highly skilled in budgeting, financial reporting, and using QuickBooks Online as well as experience with experience in Blackbaud/Raiser’s Edge.
- HR-Focused: You bring a deep understanding of HR administration, employee development, and compliance.
- Mission-Aligned: You’re passionate about animal welfare and committed to contributing to a cause that makes a difference in the Houston community.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $75,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
