The position of Director of Residence Life is essential to the development of residential students at Odessa College. This live-in position oversees the day to day operations of the residence halls and serves as the primary on-call supervisor. The Director offers a safe living-learning environment to all residents and supports student learning, student retention, and student satisfaction. The Director also works to maintain a community atmosphere among the residents while promoting civility, responsibility, and student engagement in campus activities.
Specific Position Duties
- Hire, train, and supervise all full-time, part-time and student workers for the Residence Life department.
- Live on-site in staff apartment and serve in the on call rotation as the primary on-call supervisor.
- Know and enforce campus and community policies and procedures as conduct officer and Title IX investigator (as needed).
- Coordinate residence life housing assignment and selection process.
- Coordinate move-in/move-out procedures.
- Coordinate residence life events and activities – building a sense of community and developing relationships.
- Maintain general responsibility of all residence life office procedures.
- Research and implement appropriate and effective general residence life/ student housing best practices in regards to students, staff, programming, training, processes, policies, etc.
- Assume day-to-day management of the Residence Life department.
- Monitor and report any property malfunctions and necessary renovations to maintenance staff.
- Maintain professional communication and relationships with Odessa College personnel.
- Ensure student confidentiality and adhere to privacy laws.
- Assume a leadership role and serve as a role-model for residents.
- Serve on committees as needed.
- Other duties as may be assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree required
- Highly developed skills in written and verbal communication, organization, personal responsibility, and enthusiasm.
- Basic knowledge of computers and software packages.
- Ability and willingness to work flexible hours including some evenings and weekends.
- Previous residence life and/or student housing experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s Degree in higher education, student affairs or related area; Previous student conduct and/or Title IX experience.
Work Hours
