DESCRIPTION

UC San Diego Health is seeking an outstanding Intern Pharmacist to join a highly successful Inpatient Pharmacy team to work as a Per Diem Pharmacy Intern at our Hillcrest Medical Center and La Jolla Campus.

The job will integrate into the clinical, teaching, research and distribution system for UC San Diego Health and the Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. This will be a 3 or 4 year structured program with skill sets and competencies building with each successive year. The job requires a commitment to remain at UCSD for the full 3-4 years while being a student at the school of pharmacy.

Interns are expected to work full time (40 hours per week during the summer (at least 8 weeks) and at least every other weekend during the other parts of the year. In addition, Interns will be expected to work at least one major holiday (including the weekend prior or subsequent) each year as well as at least one minor holiday each year.

The internship will include but not be limited to the following competencies and job skills: Inpatient pharmacy systems operations, automated dispensing cabinet functions and refill process, inventory management, floor stock replenishment, phone triage, problem solving, IV Room (use and maintain equipment for parenteral products, ability to perform calculations, demonstrate required technical and compounding skills to produce a sterile product, pulling functions, compounding functions, aseptic technique certification, chemotherapy preparation, & handling of pre-mixed solutions), delivery of medications to patient care areas, familiarity with the controlled substances room/distribution, functions of a pharmacist and technician, medication packaging, store room functions, and purchasing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Intern Pharmacist License with the California State Boardof Pharmacy.

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and customer service and counseling skills.

  • Proficient ability to operate computer systems.

  • Proven teaching skills and writing skills, which can be applied to article publication in hospital newsletter and professional journal.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Less than 6 months experience.
  • Pharmacy Technician License issued by the California State Board of Pharmacy.
  • Part-time or full-time work experiences in pharmacy or other related fields.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $57,211 - $93,751 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $27.40 - $44.90

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
