DESCRIPTION

The Dosimetrist designs radiation treatment plans by means of computer and/or manual computation to deliver a prescribed radiation dose and field placement technique per the physician's prescription to a defined tumor volume. This role considers dose-limiting structures in the design of treatment, and plans and documents dose in accordance with the Radiation Oncologist's prescription.

Additionally, the Dosimetrist provides physics and technical support to the relevant staff and faculty in radiation protection, qualitative machine calibrations, and quality assurance of the radiation oncology equipment. This role will also assist in the application of specific methods of dosimetry including ion chamber, TLD, or film measurement as directed by the Chief Dosimetrist.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Graduation from a Medical Dosimetry JRCERT accredited program.

  • Minimum one (1) year of training in Dosimetry.

  • Must be proficient in 3D and IMRT treatment planning.

  • Must be familiar with the operation of linear accelerators, Simulator, and CT units.

  • Must possess knowledge of treatment planning systems and departmental R/V systems.

  • Strong attention to detail and must possess superior aptitude for producing error-free calculations, so as to not detrimentally affect patient outcomes.

  • Must possess the knowledge and understanding of current practices in radiation therapy, planning, and administration.

  • Must possess ability to accurately document patient care activities in accordance with institutional and cancer center guidelines.

  • Solid ability to effectively communicate and work with medical staff, paramedical staff, patients and patient families.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Current certification or certification eligible by the Medical Dosimetrist Certification Board (MDCB).

  • One to three (1 - 3) years of experience.

  • Experience with Varian Eclipse and the Aria environment.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
  • May need to support several locations on site or via remote access i.e. La Jolla, Encinitas.
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $148,687 - $184,872 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $71.21 - $88.54

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
