Under general supervision, the Lead Medical Assistant performs a variety of work duties which requires specific knowledge and training in patient care duties within business and professions code of the State of California and/or the regulations The Joint Commission (TJC). These duties also include but are not limited to: environmental care functions, equipment/supply management and cleaning/disinfecting the environment. Incumbents may also provide front office services on a routine or back-up basis.
The Lead Medical Assistant provides training and oversees other medical assistants and serves as a resource for the entire department. Responsibilities include providing direction, scheduling and training. The Lead Medical Assistant Initiates and participates in improvement efforts which directly impact the clinic. Other Lead duties as assigned.
The Lead Medical Assistant will perform all functions of a Medical Assistant II (Room patients, vitals, intake, assist provider, chaperone exams, specimen processing, instrument processing, stocking, cleaning and checking expiration dates) but will also oversee MA staff, including scheduling, input on performance evaluations and disciplinary action duties.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSCertified Medical Assistant (CMA) OR Certificate of completion of a Medical Assistant training program.
BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to get BART within six (6) months of hire date.
Three (3) years of Certified Medical Assistant experience.
Knowledge of medical terminology, on-line scheduling, universal precautions, and proper use of body mechanics.
Requires initiative, the ability to prioritize demands and the ability to work in a team environment.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.
- Previous supervisory experience.
- Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
- Must be able to work overtime as required.
- Must be available for weekend, on call rotation.
- Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.
Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $57,378 - $71,430 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $27.48 - $34.21
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
