The RoleAs we continue to grow as QuidelOrtho, we are seeking an Environmental, Health & Safety Specialist who will act as an individual contributor and work independently on day-to-day activities under general direction from the team lead and/or designated personnel. This position requires a large degree of independent judgement and decision making within the established policies and procedures. Must be able to work on problems/issues of diverse scope, where analyses of data require evaluation of identifiable factors to develop and implement solutions. Must have a good appreciation of both business needs and stakeholders' requirements.
This position will be located onsite in Summers Ridge, San Diego, CA.
The ResponsibilitiesLead and manage activities ensuring the authoring of Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for the products portfolio.
Act as the key liaison between internal customers and the SDS vendor.
Review requests, work, drafts and make technical decisions during SDS generation.
Track and review invoices, negotiate offers from the vendor.
Effectively use the SDS related systems (SDS Web Viewer, Windchill, Workfront, OpenText, MasterControl, ExESS, Wercs Studio, LN) and make recommendations to develop adequate infrastructure or effective processes.
Work on specific assigned projects supporting environmental product compliance.
Support the EPLC team in investigating and responding to inquiries related to contract tenders, product recycling and disposal, packaging, other regulatory requests.
Perform other work-related duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree in environmental health, Engineering, or related discipline, or combination of education and experience required.
Minimum of 3 years of related experience required.
Familiar with applicable federal, state, and local laws pertaining to EH&S matters.
Working knowledge with Microsoft Office suite programs, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
Able to read, comprehend, evaluate, and communicate using hard-copy and digital media.
Must be self-motivated and able to work independently.
Up to 10% travel required, domestic and international.
Internal Partners: Environmental Product Compliance, Technical Publications, R&D, New Product development teams, Life Cycle Management teams, Regional QRC, Supplier Quality
External Partners: SDS service provider, external consultants, software service providers
The Work EnvironmentThe work environment is representative of an office environment with moderate exposure to laboratory, manufacturing, and warehouse work areas.Flexible work hours to meet project deadlines, shift work, and emergency response support. A Typical day will include 30% meeting with people, 40% performing administrative activities at assigned workstation (sitting and standing), and 30% walking the site performing safety inspections, engaging with employees, completing risk assessments, etc.
Physical DemandsSpecific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and the ability to adjust focus. The employee is required to stand, sit, walk, and use hands and fingers. Ability to climb ladders and stairs for access to elevated areas. Minor lifting and carrying of items or materials equal to or less than 50 pounds in weight may be required daily. The management of empty and full waste s may be frequently required. Potential exposure to chemical and biological hazardous materials during the decontamination and cleanup of spills and the handling of hazardous materials during waste management activities.
Salary TransparencyThe salary range for this position takes into account a wide range of factors including education, experience, knowledge, skills, geography, and abilities of the candidate, in addition to internal equity and alignment with market data. At QuidelOrtho, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. The salary range for this position is $58,000 - 80,000 annually. QuidelOrtho offers a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance, along with a 401(k) plan, employee assistance program, Employee Stock Purchase Plan, paid time off (including sick time), and paid Holidays. All benefits are non-contractual, and QuidelOrtho may amend, terminate, or enhance the benefits provided, as it deems appropriate.
