DESCRIPTION

The UCSD Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences is composed of 67 faculty, Clinical fellows, Assistant Project Scientists, and Postdoctoral Scholars. The department is composed of 7 divisions: Obstetrics and Gynecology, Maternal-Fetal Medicine, Gynecologic Oncology, Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, Hospitalist, Complex Family Planning and Urogynecologic and Reconstructive Surgery.

This position provides direct patient support to the physicians providing care in the office to newly postpartum patients in the "4th trimester Project" Clinic. This includes postpartum examinations (inclusive of physical exams, mental health evaluations, and Gynecologic procedures) as well as telephone and clinic triage to patients this clinic. It also includes supporting patients navigating the postpartum period and coordinating care across mental health, internal medicine, pediatrics, pelvic floor, lactation, and family planning to support a new model of integrated postpartum wellness. This support will provide safe and regulatory compliant nursing care during clinic and on the phone, acting as a liaison between patient and physicians. The RN will be responsible for all phone triage, shared with another RN and all the patient teaching related to the patient's clinical concerns and questions. This is a position focusing on patient comfort, safety and satisfaction while providing triage services to support wellness during the important "4th trimester" after birth. Autonomous nursing care is the ability of a nurse to assess and provide nursing actions as appropriate for patient care populations based on competence, professional expertise, and knowledge. The nurse is expected to practice autonomously consistent with ANA Standards of Practice and Professional Performance. Independent judgment is expected to be exercised within the context of interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches to patient care.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Knowledge and skill in nursing patient care as exemplified by current valid State of California Registered Nurse License. An RN License issued by the State of California.

  • Must have at least two (2) years of recent RN experience to include experience in a Women's Health clinic (outpatient/ambulatory setting.) or an equivalent combination of education and experience; and knowledges and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position.

  • Must be a graduate from an accredited school of nursing.

  • Must have BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to get BART w/in 6 months of hire date.

  • Must be able to function in a fast-paced environment, have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and consistently demonstrate empathy and kindness to all staff and patients.

  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills to manage multiple levels of information and responsibilities, and to quickly assess moderately-complex problems to develop potential solutions.

  • Demonstrates critical thinking and clinical skills to identify and implement nursing interventions and evaluate results.

  • Demonstrated ability to organize and adapt to changing priorities and frequent interruptions in order to meet specified deadlines.

  • Must have excellent skills to communicate and influence effectively with all levels of staff, physicians, patients and external constituents, both verbally and in writing.

  • Demonstrated ability to make independent decisions based on sound nursing theory and practice. Perform appropriate nursing interventions utilizing current clinical knowledge and expertise.

  • Demonstrated skill to keep organized, concise records.

  • Knowledge and skill in conducting health history, screening patients, abstracting information in medical chart.

  • Competent using several computer software programs.

  • Ability to successfully interact with diverse populations in collecting sensitive and personal information via in-person interviews and biological data collection.

  • Ability to clearly and effectively communicate clinical skills and philosophy of Preventive Medicine.

  • Knowledge of health and social services in the area.

  • Experience with guidelines related to consent, ethical conduct and protection of human subjects.

  • Knowledge of teaching and supervisory skills and ability to work in a setting with limited resources.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • BSN, ACLS and/or ART.

  • Spanish Language skills preferred.

  • Two to five (2-5) years of RN experience in Women's Health supporting patients during procedures.

  • Previous experience providing and willingness to perform and provide all gynecologic procedures and clinical services

  • Previous experience with postpartum care and/or lactation services

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.

  • Must be able to work various hours, days, shifts, on-call and various locations based on the department business needs.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $175,559 - $175,559 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $84.08 - $84.08

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
