Process Development Scientist II
Job Description
The Process Development Associate II will be responsible for performing downstream manufacturing processes on plasmid DNA. The PD Associate II will work with scientists, engineers, operators, and other associated groups to optimize, implement, and tech transfer new processes and to troubleshoot any process-related problems. The PD Associate II will independently execute bench-scale experiments in our downstream lysis and purification process as primary responsibilities.
Essential Functions:
- Train on and perform downstream processes such as alkaline lysis, chromatography, and tangential flow filtration. When not performing downstream processes, support other team members as needed in fermentation, analytics, and buffer and media preparation.
- Operate and maintain general lab equipment such as glass washers, autoclaves, scales, stir plates, mixers, spectrophotometers, electrophoresis equipment and pH and conductivity meters
- Assist in developing and revising SOPs and other work instructions as well as performing periodic revisions to ensure the procedures are up to date to current standards
- Work with R&D, MFG, MSAT, and QC groups to facilitate technology transfers
- Perform lab admin tasks such as materials ordering, vendor scheduling, and safety data sheets management
Position Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry, Biological Sciences, Bioengineering, Chemistry, or related scientific discipline.
- Minimum 3+ years experience in biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry or a comparable academic institution, performing in a process development, R&D, or manufacturing role
- Experience in alkaline lysis, tangential flow filtration, and purification processes for plasmid DNA
- Experience in documenting work in laboratory notebooks, presentations, and written reports.
- Knowledge of general laboratory techniques such as spectrometry, pH, conductivity, gel electrophoresis, etc
- Excellent organizational skills and problem-solving abilities
- Experience with mRNA and/or protein production is a plus
- Knowledge and experience with process characterization is desirable
The anticipated salary range for candidates who will work in San Diego is $70,000.00-85,000.00. The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and length of experience within the job, type and length of experience within the industry, education, etc . Wacker is a multi state employer and this salary range may not reflect positions that work in other states.
