Position Purpose:
Drive the external growth of Petco Owned Brands through international and domestic channels such as Wholesale, Ecommerce, B2B and commercial operations. This position will provide strategic merchandising, account management and assortment expertise for assigned clients in support of Petco Global Brands sales and profit margin objectives.
This position is accountable for joint business planning with key strategic customers to drive volume, profit and share growth for Petco Global Brands. They will lead the development of merchandising and assortment strategies that align with the clients' objectives in a manner that effectively reflects Petco's overall business strategy.
Scope:
This position must demonstrate management-level foresight and be able to propose decisions within the framework of Petco strategic initiatives and tactical imperatives. The incumbent is expected to serve as the Petco Global Brands merchandising and assortment expert to their assigned accounts and to expertly represent their clients to internal partners.
Essential Job Functions:
The incumbent must be able to perform all the following duties and responsibilities with or without a reasonable accommodation.
- Primary customer interface responsible for strategic joint business planning and tactical execution with customer.
- Lead assortment offering for assigned clients(s) in a manner which ensures both the client's and Petco Global Brands goals and objectives are strategically and tactically aligned.
- Prepare weekly, monthly and ad hoc business reviews to discuss the state of the business, key business drivers, and incremental opportunities to mutually grow business.
- Partner with cross-functional team such as supply chain, accounting and operations to minimize compliance charges and dispute invalid deductions.
- Lead, mentor, and inspire a team that may include, assistant/associate account managers, merchandisers or merchandise analysts, fostering a collaborative and results-driven work environment.
- Set clear goals and expectations, conduct performance evaluations, and provide ongoing coaching and development for team members.
- Participate in monthly forecast process and project annual sales volume and margin contribution for assigned clients. Maximize efficiencies and potential sales by consulting, client sales reporting and inventory changes. Proactively call out potential risks or threats to monthly forecasts.
- Actively participate in development of Petco Global Brands Annual Operating Plan and budget.
- Stay current with industry trends, competitive landscape, and consumer behavior in a client's trade area/channel/category to identify key factors affecting the performance of assigned clients.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Petco Owned Brands product ranges, features, benefits and how they differentiate from competition.
- Create compelling visual representations of the recommended product/category assortment for client presentations.
- Partner with Petco Owned Brands Operations and Logistics teams to contemplate complexities of fulfilling each individual clients' needs, and adjust recommendations accordingly.
- Collaborate with clients to market Petco Owned Brands within their market/trade area to build awareness and demand for the products/categories, drive sales and increase profit.
- Ensure all activities comply and are conducted in accordance with international, federal, state and local laws, regulations and ordinances; remain cognizant of planned/proposed changes to same.
- Interact professionally and effectively through verbal and written communication with all professional contacts with emphasis on company interests.
- Perform other related duties, tasks and responsibilities as required, assigned and directed.
Nature of Supervision:
This position is expected to independently make decisions that align with the business objectives. They will be provided with general direction from their manager, but must be self-motivated and develop strategies and plans to drive the business forward.
Supervisory Responsibility:
This position will manage 1-3 direct reports such as an assistant merchandiser, coordinator or analyst. Responsibilities include recruiting, interviewing, hiring, training, mentoring/coaching, providing functional guidance, assignment delegation and follow-through, and, partnering with Human Resources, discipline up to and including termination.
Education and Experience:
- Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent, preferably in business, merchandising, marketing or related curriculum.
- Requires five years progressively responsible, professional-level merchandising or account management experience as a buyer or category manager in a superstore, mass market or specialty national or large regional, multi-unit retail chain store or or CPG manufacturer.
- Proven leadership experience with the ability to manage and develop a team
Specific functional experience should include:
- Merchandising, inventory management, product assortment, and trade funding negotiations.
- Advanced business acumen and analytical skills necessary for proper financial modeling of assigned clients(s).
- Must have advanced computer skills, including MS Office Suite and the aptitude to learn and utilize new internal applications.
- Experience with JDA Space Planning is desirable but not required.
- Highly advanced level of knowledge, competency, and continued development in the following areas with the ability to effectively:

- Provide exceptional customer service to a portfolio of clients of various global locations, types and sizes of businesses
- Communicate expertly with a diverse set of internal partners and external clients at various levels and within various functional areas that impact their businesses
- Continue to expand ability to manage multiple responsibilities with the skill to multi-task and shift focus from one task to another seamlessly
- Identify and seize upon opportunities to maximize sales and profitability
Work Environment:
Operates in a standard office environment. The majority of job duties are performed while seated indoors with little or no exposure to hazards. Day and overnight travel for client meetings may be required periodically throughout the year. Extended domestic and overseas travel may occur periodically.
Contacts:
Primary interaction will occur internally with partners on Petco Global Brands, Owned Brands, Global Sourcing, and Merchandising teams, and externally with Clients involving merchandising and business strategy, trade funding and planning.

The pay ranges outlined below are presented in accordance with state-specific regulations. These ranges may differ in other areas and could be subject to variation based on regulatory minimum wage requirements. Actual pay rates will depend on factors such as position, location, level of experience, and applicable state or local minimum wage laws. If the regulatory minimum wage exceeds the minimum indicated in the pay range below, the regulatory minimum wage will be the minimum rate applied.
$101,900.00 - $152,800.00/ year
