Job Description

This position will:
  1. Be the lead utility for venue set-up/strike, including staging and transportation of equipment across campus
  2. Perform routine (preventative) maintenance and emergency repairs on broadcast equipment and infrastructure at the Martin Media Center
  3. Create strategic camera plans for specific venues across campus to ensure the correct equipment is available and in place for use
  4. Perform video engineering duties for live video board or non-complex routine shows.
This position will also assist with pre-event consultations, event preparation/support and post-event reports/follow-up as required. Creating, updating and maintaining technical production books documenting how events are executed is an important function of this position.

Other duties include:
  • Diagnose video system and IT problems
  • Provide alternative solutions if needed to maintain deadlines
  • Over time gain a full understanding of the technical facility, broadcast video/audio and IT-type production equipment and systems, including broadcast television production equipment including file-based production systems, switchers, graphics, replay, comms, 2110 IP router, digital audio, cameras, transmission and encoding equipment
  • Coordinate with appropriate individuals/vendors to keep equipment software/firmware up-to-date
  • Provide recommendations if repairs are not possible internally and coordinate those repairs
  • Provide inventory control on equipment

This position requires working a rotating schedule which includes nights, weekends, and holidays.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Knowledge of how a television broadcast takes place…from planning to execution
  • Knowledge of broadcast equipment transportation, set-up, operation and strike
  • Ability to work under pressure of live broadcasts
  • Organization and maintaining proper records
  • Ability to rapidly diagnose video system and IT problems
  • Ability and confidence to make decisions without supervisor input

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of the following broadcast systems, such as:
  • Grass Valley cameras
  • Vinten tripods
  • Riedel Communications

  • Operational in Google Suite
  • The ideal candidate must have the ability to multi-task, be well-organized with attention to detail, demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Have a general understanding of a broadcast technical facility, with exposure to IT-type production equipment and systems
  • Desire to maintain and expand knowledge of technology and industry trends
