Job Summary

The Director of Development reports to the Vice President of Institutional Advancement. The Director of Development will lead, manage, develop, and implement fundraising activities to support the mission of the Institutional Advancement Office and the Midland College Foundation. The primary focus of this position is to cultivate donors and prospects (individuals, corporations, foundations, alumni, etc.) with the significant giving capacity to accomplish their philanthropic goals through the form of annual, major, and planned gifts. This strategic work involves extensive collaboration and active partnerships with Midland College leadership, volunteers, and senior administrators to ensure existing and emerging constituents are best positioned to provide maximum levels of philanthropic support for Midland College priorities.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum of one year of experience working with donor relations and fundraising experience
  • Knowledge and understanding of the function and role of the nonprofit and philanthropic sectors in the community
  • Ability to manage a diverse portfolio of relationships and partnerships
  • Experience dealing with the public and students of diverse socio-economic, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds
  • Strong interpersonal communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to handle a fast-paced work environment and detail-oriented tasks
  • Develop effective and efficient processes, interacting with donors and funders while coordinating between appropriate departments requiring advanced problem-solving and critical thinking skills
  • Effectively manage time and priorities to meet established deadlines
  • Work in a team environment with multiple, sometimes changing priorities
  • Promote a culture of high performance, integrity, and continuous improvement that values learning, collaboration, and a commitment to quality work among the development team
  • Interact with donors, students, and colleagues in a professional manner
  • Participate on behalf of the Institutional Advancement Office and Midland College in community organizations and associations as assigned
  • Must possess a valid Texas Driver License, good driving record, and be insurable on Midland College’s insurance policy

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree
  • Four or more years of donor relations and fundraising experience
  • Academic and administrative experience
  • Experience working with donor software; Raiser’s Edge

Essential Functions

  • Cultivate major gift prospects, investing the necessary time and energy to build relationships designed to understand the donor/prospect goals with the expressed purpose of alignment with scholarship matches, as well as the Institutional Advancement Office and Midland College Foundation’s mission and objectives
  • Through discovery, cultivation, and stewardship methods, increase existing donor base
  • Track prospects and donor contacts in portfolio using organizational tools and tracking methods via Raiser’s Edge, ensuring that all donor information entry, storage, and special requests are recorded and accomplished
  • Establish and oversee process for communicating with donors and scholarship recipients (correspondences, impact reports, profiles, donor meetings, etc.)
  • Collaborate with campus leadership and select faculty/staff to develop and fundraise in support of priority initiatives
  • Work with Institutional Advancement Office staff, as well as internal and external volunteers, to coordinate activities and communications
  • Lead the development of written proposals and other materials to deepen prospect engagement
  • Develop, organize, and implement a structured philanthropic leadership program for students via weekly meetings, seminars, conferences, and events
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with nonprofit organizations in the Midland community and surrounding areas
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation
  • Must be available for evenings and weekends for special events, meetings, trainings and conferences
  • Duties performed both indoors and outdoors
  • Work both on-campus and off-campus

Pay Statement

Salary is commensurate with educational qualifications and experience.
