Primary Purpose:

Participates in the design, development, implementation, maintenance, and enhancement of data products across the full cycle of data services - integration/transport, processing and/or visualization - and associated systems to support the analytics needs of data/business analysts or data scientists. Collaborates with business partners, IT peer teams, data architect or other engineers to identify data requirements and translate to technology solutions.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supports the design and build of data products - data pipelines, data lakes, data/analytics applications. Supports development of data ingestion and transformation processes, to include batch (ETL, ELT), streaming, virtualization and/or replication. Supports development of data lakes/warehouses consisting of raw and curated levels, join data from multiple datasets into logical views; publish datasets to central data mesh/marketplace. Supports design, builds and implementations of data visualizations to enable actionable operational improvements. Creates and reviews technical and user focused documentation for data solutions (data models, data dictionaries/lineage, process and data flows, architecture diagrams, etc.). Works with project/client teams to follow established data management practices, including the data catalog, metadata management, data quality management.
  • Provides end-to-end maintenance and support of all products and features owned by their product team, performing triage and responding to incidents as needed.
  • Grows development skills to build/code in alignment with agile mindset and values, working off user stories within an agile scrum team. Participates in team's agile ceremonies (the 5 ceremonies involved in Scrum methodology: daily stand up, sprint planning, backlog refinement, demos, and retrospective), communicating progress, collaboratively solving problems, and contributing to the team's success in delivering work as defined in sprint outcomes. Partners with team members and other functions within the technology organization when necessary. Participates in quarterly planning and related demos/activities. Begins to establish trusted relationships with business partners, IT peer teams and vendor partners. Begins to attain and continuously improve knowledge of business subject areas/data domain.
  • Participates in reviews and demos of technical specifications and program code as part of the technical team, utilizing the opportunity to receive feedback and learn from the work of other engineers. Participates with IT staff, business/vendor partners, and other stakeholders in new product reviews, tests, and pilots. Expands knowledge of business subject areas/data domains.
  • Performs other duties as assigned (no more than 5% of duties).

Hybrid Schedule:

  • Although the schedule may vary, typically this will allow the employee to work onsite three days per week and remotely on the remaining workdays.
  • Must reside in Southern California or be willing to relocate upon hire.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree Computer Science, Information Systems, Statistics or another quantitative field, or equivalent experience and/or training.
  • 2 years professional experience in software or data product design, development, installation, and modification in a professional business environment or completion of the IT Rotation program.
  • Hands-on experience working with database, data integration/ETL, and/or data visualization tools.
  • Working knowledge of SQL and experience working with relational databases, query authoring (SQL) as well as working familiarity with a variety of databases.
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • May require work outside of normal business hours and/or 24/7 response availability for system and application maintenance, enhancements, production releases and/or operational emergencies.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1 year Software Delivery Frameworks - Strong knowledge of delivery frameworks such as Agile Scrum, Kanban, and/or Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC). Proven ability executing projects in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
  • Strong analytic skills related to working with structured and unstructured datasets,
  • Self-directed and comfortable supporting the data needs of multiple teams, systems and products.
  • Familiarity with data modeling, data architecture, data security and data governance practices.
