Essential Job Duties
- Animal care and husbandry of a variety of species, including mice, rats, fish, frogs, and voles which includes daily observations and treatments as necessary.
- Oversight and disinfection of environmental conditions for animal rooms and support areas in the assigned animal facilities.
- Report and document changes, including animal health, diet, and environment.
- Utilize/mix chemicals necessary for sanitation of rooms and equipment.
- Daily observation of all assigned animals and documentation of those observations, along with daily room maintenance and animal log documentation.
Other Responsibilities
- Daily care and observations of assigned animals which includes cage changes, and provision of food and water.
- Research support which may include tissue and blood collection, weighing, research-related observations and breeding support.
- Review of applicable approved animal care and use research protocols to ensure compliance.
Minimum Experience/Education
Other Required Qualifications
- Skilled in the laboratory animal sciences field and experience performing laboratory animal related duties.
- Husbandry and handling of various laboratory animal species with an emphasis on rodents and zebrafish.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodations and this position involves standing for long periods of time.
Preferred Qualifications
Required License or Certification
- American Associate for Laboratory Science (AALAS) technician certification or ability to obtain certification within 18 months of start date.
Valid NC Driver's License required
