Job Description:
Under the direction of the Director of Student Financial Assistance, the Eligibility Clerk serves as the front-line customer service person, assisting students through email, phone, and at the front counter. The Eligibility Clerk provides excellent customer service to students by reviewing and advising students on the College enrollment process. The Eligibility Clerk will provide support on the financial aid application processes and procedures to ensure accurate submission of applications to state and federal agencies. The Eligibility Clerk collects and reviews student documents for accuracy; assists in determining initial categorical eligibility; advises students about programs they are eligible for assistance; maintains current case data in automated management systems as appropriate to the program area assignment; and uses computer applications or other automated systems such as spreadsheets, word processing, calendar, e-mail and database software in performing work assignments. The Eligibility Clerk will also perform related clerical tasks as required. The Eligibility Clerk will be required to work both at the Valhalla and Yonkers campuses.
Requirements:
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: *This is a Civil Service position. The final candidate will be required to take and pass the Civil Service Exam.* The successful candidate must possess a high school or equivalency diploma and three (3) years of experience which involved the provision of services to individuals or clients in a human services setting**. Satisfactory completion of 30 credits may be substituted on a year for year basis for each year of the above stated experience.
**DEFINITION: Human services setting shall be defined as an organization in which human services are provided, generally to prevent as well as resolve problems and to assist individuals in functioning as effectively as possible; services include but are not limited to social, economic, psychological, and/or emotional support services that are provided to clients or individuals (services are generally related to public assistance, social services, mental health, substance abuse, aging, special needs, etc.). Human services experience involves direct contact with the client or individual.
All candidates must have evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and evidence of equity-minded practice in all college policies, practices, and personnel.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: It is strongly preferred that the successful candidate possesses excellent customer service and communication skills, preferably with serving students in a higher education setting; and experience working with and explaining federal and/or state regulations. Bilingual (Spanish speaking) is preferred.

POSITION EFFECTIVE: The position will remain open until filled.
SALARY & BENEFITS: The starting salary for this position is $50,787. Additional compensation with seniority steps maximize at a salary of $61,566. Benefits include comprehensive health coverage, a choice of defined benefit or defined contribution pension plan, generous leave benefits, and access to tax sheltered annuities and a deferred compensation plan.
WORK SCHEDULE: The work schedule is Mondays & Tuesdays (Yonkers) 9:00am - 5:00pm; Wednesdays & Thursdays (Valhalla) 11:00am - 7:00pm; Fridays (Valhalla) 9:00am - 5:00pm.
