Job Description

Depending on the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate, this position will be hired at the MAII or MAIII level.

DESCRIPTION

Under direct supervision of the clinic manager and the general supervision of the clinic providers and licensed nursing staff, performs work that requires specific knowledge and training in patient care duties within the business and profession code of the State of California and/or the regulations The Joint Commission (TJC).

These duties also include but are not limited to: scheduling patient appointments and associated patient system screens; accurate billing; environmental care functions; equipment/supply management; and cleaning/disinfecting the environment. Requires knowledge of medical terminology, online scheduling, universal precautions, and proper use of body mechanics. The position requires initiative, the ability to prioritize demands and the ability to work in a team environment. Performs other related duties as required.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES PERFORMED AS A MEDICAL ASSISTANT III

Under general supervision, the Medical Assistant Specialist performs additional clinical responsibilities in specialized health fields and utilizes additional certification and/or training to support procedures, technical functions, or other higher-level specialist duties as required.

Utilizes certified phlebotomy technician certification to perform the following responsibilities:

Uses phlebotomy identification protocols to correctly identify all patients, demonstrates the ability to label all specimens with the correct label, performs venipuncture and blood culture collection under aseptic conditions on all patients, and performs venipuncture using a syringe or other needle safety devices to collect specimens for specialized testing such as but not limited to Venous Blood Gas. Recognizes and meets productivity and quality standards. Performs timed phlebotomy draws.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) OR Certificate of completion of a Medical Assistant training program.

  • Two (2) or more years of relevant experience.

  • BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to get BART within six (6) months of hire date.

  • Proven knowledge of medical terminology, online scheduling, universal precautions, and proper use of body mechanics.

  • Strong ability to take initiative, prioritize demands and work in a team environment.

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED AS A MEDICAL ASSISTANT III

  • Three (3) years of medical assistant experience.

  • Certified Phlebotomy Technician Certification.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience in an oncology ambulatory setting.

  • Urgent care and emergency department experience.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $50,321 - $62,640 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $24.10 - $30.00

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
