Job Description

This position is responsible for assisting the CDL Administrator in developing and maintaining the CDL program, the Heavy Equipment program and other Workforce Development Programs created in the Contract Education Department.
Duties & Responsibilities

Job Functions

Assists the CDL Administrator
The ongoing expansion/development of the Luna Community College (LCC) Contract Education Department including, but not limited to, CDL theory training, hands-on CDL Class A training, Heavy Equipment theory training, hands-on Heavy Equipment training, CDL and Heavy Equipment simulator training, and other Workforce training programs as they are added to the LCC course listing.

Participate in hiring and scheduling instructors as needed.

Establish and maintain partnerships with appropriate community businesses, agencies and industry thru the Workforce programs with job placement, on-the-job training, apprenticeships and internships

Adhere to budget guidelines while maintaining program equipment and supplies and training.

Coordinate and maintain student records in accordance to Luna CC guidelines, answer phones, make copies, assist students and other office duties as needed.

Schedules maintenance and repairs of all CDL/Heavy Equipment/simulators and ensure equipment is in safe working condition. Report any safety hazards immediately to the Administrator or appropriate department.

Perform all required safety checks on training equipment (pre-trip/post-trip) per Department of Transportation (DOT) guidelines.
Follow/teach DOT regulations, guidelines and policies to LCC students.
Prepares and teaches CDL and Heavy Equipment classroom/theory and lab/fieldwork classes. Implements techniques to facilitate student active learning; prepares & grades tests, student outcome assessments, and participates in program and curriculum development. Utilize the latest in technology CDL/Heavy Equipment simulators to provide real world training experiences for students seeking better employment opportunities in the Workforce.
Advise students on topics including registration, tuition assistance and job placement.
Ensure students participate and complete the required CDL/Heavy Equipment classes as scheduled and are ready to take their final test.
Participate in professional development workshops and conferences.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge

Knowledge of adult learning theory, curriculum development, classroom, laboratory and field presentation techniques
Advising methods and techniques
Research methodology and information resources related to designated field(s) of career and technical education studies
Knowledge of basic supervisory and coaching principles and practices
Knowledge of various types of heavy equipment
Ability to supervise students in work experience settings
Ability to prepare and present classroom lectures and laboratory work
Proficient in Commercial Vehicle Driving and Heavy Equipment training techniques
Work Environment

Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. The worker stands at least 70 percent of the time.
The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading and visual inspection.
The worker may be required to work evenings and/or weekends.
Off Site training may be required, with overnight stay.
The worker is occasionally exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
The worker must be able to pass a DOT drug test
The worker must be able to pass and maintain the DOT physical
Education, Experience and Licenses

A valid New Mexico Class A CDL Driver’s License is required.
At least two (2) years of practical experience is required.
This position will require a varied work schedule and location as determined by class/student variables. (Times can be from 8 am - 8 pm, Monday - Friday, 8 am - 3 pm Saturday) (Locations can be at our Mora, Springer, Santa Rosa LCC satellites).
