The Johns Hopkins University Human Language Technology Center of Excellence (HLTCOE) is a world-class research center creating advanced techniques for analyzing a variety of video, image, speech, text, and document image data in a wide variety of diverse languages. Established in 2007, the HLTCOE is home to a growing group of outstanding research scientists and graduate students who utilize state-of-the-art technology to address unique and exciting challenge problems.
The Human Language Technology Center of Excellence at Johns Hopkins University has an immediate opening for Alternate Assistant Contractor Special Security Officer. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting the CSSO with performing all disciplines within security to include personnel security, physical security, communications security, document control, visitor control, and other duties as assigned. The Alternate CSSO reports to the CSSO, and is part of the broader Johns Hopkins University security professional community.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- The specific duties and responsibilities of the Alternate CSSO will include,
- Monitoring, implementing, and enforcing security practices and procedures.
- Comply with and enforce any additional guidance and instructions received from the Sponsoring Agency.
- Creating and tracking incoming/outgoing visit requests.
- Maintenance of the HLTCOE visitor badge roster for secure spaces.
- Provide timely reporting of incidents affecting the security of secure areas. Investigate promptly all loss, compromise or suspected compromise of classified information and material; furnish a preliminary report to the CSSO; and conduct a thorough follow-up investigation, when directed, including a description of corrective action taken.
- Report to the CSSO any information received or observed that may raise a question regarding the security of secure areas or of classified information or material.
- Control destruction of SCI, using only those destruction facilities and personnel approved by the Sponsoring Agency, and maintain appropriate destruction records required by regulation.
- Notify the Sponsoring Agency at least 30 days in advance of intended foreign travel by any relevant employee.
- Initiating, submitting, coordinating, and tracking to completion personnel security clearances using client-mandated processes and procedures.
- Assisting CSSO with maintenance of facility security and UL2050 requirements.
- Updating and maintaining Contractor Program Roster Log (eCPRL).
- Ensuring client-required documents are kept up to date.
- Assisting CSSO with the coordination of security briefings, including informing all indoctrinated personnel within the organization of pertinent regulations, or changes thereto, which affect the handling and utilization of SCI.
- Assisting CSSO with preparation of annual government security reviews.
Maintain in a current state the following security records/item
- Document Control Records.
- Destruction Records.
- Secure Document Guidelines.
- Access Letters.
- Visitor Log and Clearance Certification.
- Combination Change Records.
- Reproduction Procedures and Records.
- Alarm Test Procedures and Records.
- Courier Records.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Two years of security related experience.
- Ability to use standard information processing systems such as Microsoft Office with minimal supervision.
- US Citizenship is required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of COMSEC.
- Knowledge of DISS.
- Experience with SIMS or other relevant security databases.

Starting Salary Range: $21.25 - $36.90 HRLY ($80,000 targeted; Commensurate with experience)
