Technical Operations Technician- Part time
Job Description
The Technical Operations Technician is a multifaceted, self-directed, and experienced technician that provides installation, maintenance, and disposition support for academic equipment at GRCC. The technician will work in both office and educational lab environments. Academic equipment includes electrical, mechanical, electronic, and specialty items ranging from industrial machines (e.g. automotive lifts, plastic injection machines, mills, lathes) to commercial assets (e.g. hospital beds, dental chairs, and vehicles) to educational trainers (e.g. medical manikins and simulators). The technician must possess technical skills required to install new equipment, and to trouble-shoot, repair, and maintain existing equipment. Additionally, excellent interpersonal skills to support faculty, staff, and external repair specialists are a must.

Essential Job Functions
- Plan, layout and organize work with minimum supervision.
- Provide excellent customer service and communication with faculty and staff on the status of projects, equipment installations and repairs.
- Provide mechanical and electronic support to maintain and repair academic equipment including coordinating maintenance activities with faculty, staff, and outside vendors to minimize equipment downtimes and class interruptions.
- Provide physical and mechanical support for equipment installations and relocations in labs.
- Coordinate work done by internal support departments such as Facilities, IT, and external vendors to complete repairs and installations of lab equipment.
- Facilitate preventive maintenance program for lab equipment.
- Maintain inventories of department equipment and repair parts.
- Order parts/supplies as required.
- Regular attendance during normally scheduled hours is required. Being present is essential for serving customers and performing the essential functions of this position.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Education/License
- Industrial Maintenance Certificate or equivalent education and/or work experience. Associate’s Degree preferred

- Minimum of 5 Years of experience working in an Industrial or Commercial maintenance field.

Working Conditions

- Will work alone the majority of the time.
- Will be required to work on the main campus and any offsite locations.
- Will work primarily in academic labs, in a workshop, or in an office.
- May be required to work in an active construction site during special projects.
- Will work with diverse and sometimes hazardous equipment.
- Will work with hazardous substances and equipment (e.g. lubricants and industrial equipment).
- Must have a valid Michigan driver’s license to travel between GRCC facilities, suppliers, hardware stores, etc.
