About the Department

The mission of the NC State Department of Athletics is to prepare student-athletes to compete at the highest level and to inspire them to be leaders now and for the future by providing the best environment to achieve their athletic, academic and personal aspirations as well as providing support for the professional development of our coaches and staff, all within the role of the greater institutional relationships to the University. This position will serve in the Facilities section of the North Carolina State University Athletic Department which competes as a NCAA Division I team in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Essential Job Duties

Responsibilities of the Facility Maintenance Technician include but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for general repairs, installations and maintenance on building equipment, including changing ballasts, light bulbs and/or tubes, light switches, receptacles, door locks and general repairs on plumbing fixtures, refrigeration equipment, alarm and fire protection systems, piping and tubing, etc.
  • Supervision of one full-time housekeeper.
  • Performing general carpentry, floor repairs, and general repairs to buildings
  • Operating and maintaining boiler equipment and maintain required record of operations
  • Inspecting equipment for proper lubrication and perform other preventative maintenance duties as needed
  • Checking out building problem areas, make necessary repairs and adjustments
  • Referring complex situations to supervisor or higher-classified mechanics
  • Performing routine building inspections according to company policy
  • Installing and repairing new and existing plumbing fixtures, drain lines and accessories
  • Supervising periodic testing, servicing, and recording results of cross connection devices
  • Performing preventive maintenance, installation and repair of water pipes, controls, and associated equipment
  • Performing installation and repair of various types of electrical fixtures including lamp and ballast replacement
  • Installation and repair of electrical devices (switches, receptacles, breakers, transformers, etc.)
  • Performing minor repair of heating, ventilation, and air condition equipment including some filter changing
  • Monitoring water chemical treatment programs for cooling towers and fountains
  • Monitoring customer space temperatures and adjust thermostats when needed
  • Assisting the HVAC technician with any building related mechanical or maintenance issues when required
  • Investigating and monitoring repeat customer-related calls and report them to the Building Systems Administrator
  • Performing minor leak repairs to roof, window, and fountains
  • Assisting contractors with life safety alarm systems and water-based or dry fire protection systems shut downs and testing
  • Performing installation and repair of ceiling tiles, wall coverings, vinyl tile, carpet, cove base, window blinds, signage, etc.
  • Responsible for accurate and timely recordkeeping and reporting
  • Working events as scheduled and special events as needed
  • Providing assistance in maintaining all athletic facilities
  • Oversee moveout and move in of staff offices for football home games.

Minimum Experience/Education

High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.

Optional Guidelines: Experience in the Trade(s) areas related to the area of assignment may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

Other Required Qualifications

  • Prior experience working in Athletic and/or Event Operations.
  • Knowledge of basic trades.
  • Ability to lift 50 to 75 lbs, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prefer prior maintenance position preferably in an athletic venue.

Required License or Certification

  • A valid drivers license will be required by date of employment and must be maintained as a condition of employment.
