Job Description

Position Summary

Responsible for classroom and clinical instruction and evaluation in an integrated curriculum.

 

Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Team classroom teaching, supervising students in clinical practice settings and instructional labs;
  2. Assisting in curriculum evaluation and revision;
  3. Committee work, advising and counseling students;
  4. Sharing ongoing efforts to recruit and retain students;
  5. Attend meetings at other VC campuses;
  6. Other duties as necessary. 
  7. This position will access student records at times and will follow all FERPA guidelines.

 

ADN Clinical Instructors – 30 hours per week positions

  1. Teach two clinical rotations with evenings and weekends necessary as needed.  This consist of 24 hours per week.
  2. Hold two hours per week for student office hours on VC campus
  3. Four hours per week, perform other duties as assigned such as, but not limited to, online course development or management, lab assistance or other level assistance.

 

Qualifications

  • VN Instructor requires an Associate Degree in Nursing from an accredited institution;  Bachelors’ degree preferred;
  • ADN Instructor requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing with a Master’s Degree in a related field and six graduate hours in nursing from an accredited college or university;
  • ADN Instructor preferred qualifications: Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in nursing from an accredited college or university; teaching experience in an associate degree nursing program; online course development experience.
  • Current unencumbered Texas Registered Professional Nursing license required;
  • A minimum of three years of nursing clinical experience required, preferably in adult medical-surgical nursing and pediatric and/or maternity nursing,
  • Basic computer skills and willingness to learn advanced computer skills,
  • On-line course development experience or willingness to learn.
  • Discretionary judgment regarding confidential information;
  • Ability to accomplish basic business tasks, meet deadlines, and ability to learn and interpret policies and procedures;
  • Effective communication skills and ability to interact with diverse groups

 

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle controls, key pads, etc.
  • Will be required to sit and reach with hands and arms
  • Will be required to stand and walk for a minimum of 6-8 hours during clinical or nursing lab (may include up to a consecutive 12 hour shift)
  • Requires some stooping, lifting and moving during patient clinical demonstrations
  • The employee will occasionally lift and/or move up to 15-20 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, some color vision, and the ability to adjust focus from documents to computer screen.
  • Hearing of light to moderate sound is required by this job. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
