GENERAL SUMMARY

The Vocational Counselor, under the supervision of the Senior Manager of Client Support Services, will assist in the coordination of both Transition School and Employment Services. The Vocational Counselor will assist in student recruitment, class & lesson plan development, personal counseling, teaching, and developing personal connections with school districts, students and their families. They will assist in coordination of program services for consumers referred by OVR, school districts and other social service agencies. This position will assist in preparing consumers for successful competitive employment and self-sufficiency by assisting in the role of job developer, implementer and maintainer of contracts for successful placement, training, assessments and follow-up services for people with disabilities. Must have a valid driver’s license and car to be able to access all parts of Lancaster County. Must be able to work a very flexible schedule as needed.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Teaches specific pre-vocational / independent living classes to promote student independence and self-sufficiency.

2. Provides support to Employment Specialist assisting in providing, job development, marketing, job coaching and follow-up to create competitive job placements and ensure job retention.

3. Adheres to agency-wide and department-specific policies and work rules to ensure efficiency and compliance.

4. Demonstrates commitment to customer service in order to fulfill agency mission and values through the following:

 

EDUCATION:

Bachelor’s degree in education, rehabilitation, psychology, social work, counseling or other social/human service preferred. Associates Degree accepted with 3 years relevant and related experience.

 

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of three (3) years of experience in teaching, counseling or working with individuals with disabilities strongly preferred.

 

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

· Excellent communication skills in written and spoken language.

· Effective organizational skills.

· Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

· Ability to teach and/or counsel others effectively.

· Must be able to accommodate travel to remote locations which are not located near public transportation.

· Must possess a valid driver’s license.

· Must be willing and able to work a flexible schedule as needed, including early morning hours, evenings and/or weekends and holidays.

· Clean driving record and reliable transportation.

· ACRE Certification / National Certificate of Achievement in Employment required

 

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $22.50 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
