Salary Range: $21.00 per hour

FLSA: Non-Exempt

Immediate Supervisor: College Director of Adult Education and Literacy

Schedule Details: Part-time (not to exceed 19.5 hours per week)/Grant-funded

 

Position Summary

This position is responsible to the College Director of Adult Education and Literacy (AEL) for the organization and direction of all aspects of the AEL class sites assigned to them under the AEL program.

 

Essential Job Duties

  • Teach English as a Second Language class to adults.
  • Maintain required AEL certification. If required, (by level of certification) attend 20 hours per year of Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) approved professional development.
  • Develop and direct a personalized program of learning for individual students.
  • Assist each assigned student to master areas of deficiency.
  • Constantly evaluate student progress and communicate results to each student in a positive manner.
  • Assist in the development and selection of instructional materials.
  • Maintain a current inventory of all books and materials.
  • Establish, maintain and submit student and class records and reports.
  • Supervise and assist aides and volunteers.
  • Communicate supply needs to the College Director of Adult Education and Literacy.
  • Submit student enrollment and testing paperwork at a minimum of once each month.
  • Submit timesheets, enrollments, post-testing, and termination forms.
  • Maintain accurate, daily attendance records with number of hours and minutes attended documented.
  • Maintain student files for each student.
  • Pre-test 100% of enrolled students as per the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education’s (DESE) requirements.
  • Post-Test a minimum of 70% of enrolled students as per DESE and submit post-testing results.
  • Post-test AEL students per DESE guidelines after documented progress or after 40 hours of attendance.
  • Each student file will contain individual educational objectives determined after pre-testing.
  • Maintain an average of three follow-up contacts per student who has been absent.
  • Assist program in meeting state and federal program performance goals; an average of 62% of 12+ hour students should increase educational level.
  • Refer and maintain written documentation of all referrals when students need additional support services.
  • Post-test students and provide documentation on the student data sheet indicating mastery in the post-test subject area.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning.
  • Adult Education and Literacy Certification (or ability to become certified within 90 days).
  • Demonstrated ability to teach adults with limited English language skills.
  • Ability to work well with others.

 

Preferred Knowledge Skills & Abilities

  • One year of teaching experience with English Language Learners.
  • Ability to utilize educational software.
  • Ability to use information technology for professional productivity (such as Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Experience working within a collegiate setting.
