Labouré College of Healthcare, Inc. seeks a collaborative Assistant Controller with a proven record of accomplishment. Under the direction of the Vice President of Finance and Administration, the Assistant Controller will provide day-to-day support to the Finance department. This role will be responsible for financial reporting, budgeting, internal controls, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Financial Reporting and Analysis:
- Prepare journal entries, invoices, etc., and reconcile accounts for the monthly, quarterly, and annual closing.
- Help analyze financial data and generate reports for management, highlighting trends and variances.
- Support the Vice President of Finance and Administration in managing the general ledger and ensuring the accuracy and completeness of financial records.
- Complies with all statutes, regulations, board policies, and procedures about restricted and unrestricted accounting.
Budgeting and Forecasting:
- Assist in the preparation of the annual budget and periodic forecasts.
- Monitor actual financial performance against the budget and report variances to management.
- Provide insights and recommendations to improve financial performance.
Internal Controls and Compliance:
- Assist in developing and implementing internal controls and policies to comply with legislation and established best practices.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and other regulatory requirements.
- Support the internal and external audit processes, including preparing audit schedules and documentation.
Accounting Operations:
- Assist in the management of cash flow, including the monitoring of cash balances and forecasts.
- Oversee daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and bank reconciliations.
- Audits workflow to ensure that all accounting transactions are appropriately authorized. Participates in preparing revenue, expense, cash balance projections, financial budgets, and other specialized financial reports and analyses.
- Recommends, implements, and administers accounting policies and procedures incorporating strong internal controls for all college, non-profit component units, and fiscal agent entities.
Team Leadership and Development:
- Assist in training and developing team members to ensure continuous improvement and professional growth.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure accurate and timely financial information.
Special Projects:
- Participate in special projects as assigned by the Vice President of Finance and Administration, such as system implementations, process improvements, and financial analysis.
- Provide support in strategic initiatives as required.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervises, trains, and evaluates assigned staff (Accountants I and II).
- Other duties as assigned.

- Knowledge of advanced financial and management accounting principles, methods, and practices.
- Knowledge of college and/or public auditing policies, standards, and procedures.
- Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
- Ability to develop financial plans and reports, manage resources, and handle multiple, complex tasks and deadlines.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, sometimes stressful, large financial operation.
- Knowledge of data analysis, cost behavior, and forecasting.

- Ability to supervise and train employees.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field.
- Minimum three years of proven experience as an Assistant Controller.
- Minimum three years of supervisory experience.
- Experience with Microsoft Office, ADP, and accounting software (e.g, Jenzabar)
- Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and regulations.
- Strong knowledge of accounting and financial processes (budgeting, financial closure, reporting, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in Accounting
- Professional certification (e.g., CPA)
- Prior experience in higher education and non-profit environments
