Sr. Data Analyst
Job Description
The Department of International Health is seeking a Sr. Data Analyst. This position is to support faculty within the Human Nutrition Program in the Department of International Health at BSPH. The person in this position will work closely with two faculty on qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis. The individual in this position should have strong mixed methods training, strong qualitative data analysis skills, and strong quantitative data analysis skills, particularly related to survey data. Projects will focus on food policy and food systems issues particularly related to addressing food insecurity, poor diet quality, diet quality and diet-related disease disparities, food equity, and promoting food systems that support environmentally sustainable and healthy food choices for all.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- Work closely with faculty PIs to collect and analyze qualitative and quantitative data for various research projects.
- Communicate with study team members across multiple sites.
- Execute data analysis plans consistent with research aims.
- Draft methods and results sections for manuscripts and contribute to manuscripts and other dissemination documents.
- Program and maintain data collection instruments in Qualtrics or RedCap.
- Participate in the development, testing and evaluation of manuals, questionnaires, and coding structures for efficient collection and management of data.
- Train, and oversee day-to-day work of research assistants or students involved in data collection and analysis.
- Meet regularly with faculty PIs to review progress and activities.
- Report results of analyses and communicate findings to the research team, present data at meetings.
- Perform related work as required.
Special Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Demonstrated interest and enthusiasm for food and nutrition policy issues, particularly the intersection of nutrition/dietary quality, health equity, and sustainability/climate change.
- Understanding of basic concepts in public health nutrition, food policies, food systems.
- Demonstrated experience in quantitative data analysis, including use of relevant statistical software such as Stata, R, or similar.
- Demonstrated experience in qualitative data analysis, including use of relevant software such as NVivo, Atlas.ti, or similar.
- Experience contributing to peer reviewed scientific publications.
- Proficiency in the use of common software applications, databases, spreadsheets, and word processing.
- Ability to work well with other professionals with minimal supervision in a self-directed fashion.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree.
- Five years experience.
- Additional education may substitute for experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in related discipline, but PhD preferred.
- Three years related work experience.
- PhD in public health, public policy, nutrition, food systems planning, or social and behavioral sciences or related field from an accredited college or university.
- Demonstrated experience with mixed methods, qualitative data collection and analysis using software such as Atlas.ti or NVivo or similar, and quantitative survey data analysis using software such as Stata or R.
- Prior experience working on research studies related to food and nutrition, food systems, community engagement.
