This individual will have a strong understanding of our history, structure, and programs, as well as a strong commitment to The Salvation Army's mission.
The Community Engagement Coordinator is responsible for promoting The Salvation Army in the community by identifying, initiating, and deepening relationships, executing community outreach programs for the ARC Rehabilitation Programs, donated goods and thrift stores, identifying funding sources and community partners, working with government and civic agencies, and promoting The Salvation Army's work in the communities we serve.

EDUCATION/WORK EXPERIENCE:
- 2+ years of work experience in Community Outreach, Engagement or Marketing.
- Some college coursework or in progress of obtaining a college degree.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
- Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office and other programs needed to perform duties.
This individual will have in-depth knowledge and the ability to do the following:
- Position the San Diego ARC Officers as the foremost experts in Substance Abuse in the County.
- Maintain and grow outreach efforts for monetary donations, donated goods, thrift store shopping & online store, ARC Program, that include one-on-one and group presentations.
- Promote community engagement with creative videos, influencers, and local groups to maximize reach digitally.
- Demonstrate organizational and project management skills in a fast-paced environment; ability to manage details of multiple and complex projects within deadlines.
- Ensure all ARC print and digital materials follow proper brand-standards and best practices.
- Ensure written material, intended for public dissemination has proper content and "voice" is consistent with TSA policy".
- Create and maintain excellent working relationships with all key players: ARC Administrators and staff, ARC Command, THQ, DHQs, businesses and community organizations.
- Work with and help recruit community and Advisory Council volunteers
- Maintain contact files and a system of follow up protocols.
- Provide weekly/monthly results report showing the progress of donation procurement and community engagement.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
- Identify, initiate, and deepen relationships with various community stakeholders in the areas that the ARC's serve, with a focus on key groups, including shoppers & donors or various demographics, program referral sources, community partners and civic and gov't leaders, schools, and other groups.
- Help develop and implement community engagement action plans identifying specific, measurable objectives for outreach initiatives in various communities.
- Proactively search out opportunities for interviews and speaking engagements with government, civic and community groups for ARC Administrators.
- Develop contacts for complimentary (pro bono) advertising space including PSAs for store sale events, donation locations, vehicle donations, and ARC Rehab Program.
- Invite local community partners, law enforcement, civic, religious, court, social services groups, and the public for standing monthly tours.
- Works closely with all ARCs for Command-wide community engagement projects.
- Other limited written or verbal duties may be assigned by the Administrator for Business or designate.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, or twist on an intermittent or continuous basis.
- Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, and other office equipment.
- Ability to communicate clearly on the telephone.
- Ability to perform various repetitive motion tasks.
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. (file boxes, event set up, etc.)
