BerryDunn has partnered with Preble Street to identify a caring and experienced Vice President of Human Resources (VPHR) who will align with Preble Street’s mission, values, and diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts. You will develop and oversee the Agency’s workforce planning and development, employee relations, labor relations, compensation and benefits, staff training, and risk management strategies, using best practices. As a member of Agency leadership, the VPHR is a key participant in strategic planning for the organization.

Responsibilities:
- Provide consultation to leadership and program/department management on staffing, position creation, resource allocation, organizational structure, and other staffing-related strategy and
- Develop the recruitment and hiring strategies to meet the agency staffing needs in accordance with best practices; legal requirements; alignment with the mission and values of the agency; and promotion of diversity, equity, and inclusion values and principles.
- Oversee new staff orientation and onboarding processes to ensure alignment with organizational culture, workforce development goals, and compliance with all administrative and legal requirements.
- Provide consultation on agency performance evaluation processes; develop, evaluate, and lead implementation of performance management tools, in consultation and collaboration with HR and program
- Work collaboratively with and in support of the Senior Director of HR (SDHR) and Employee Relations & Training Manager (ERTM) to ensure the training program meets the agency’s staff development goals and requirements.
- May lead, present, and/or facilitate staff trainings, as needed and appropriate to support the agency training
- Lead union contract negotiation strategy, develop and draft contract proposals and MOUs, respond to grievances, implement contract provisions, and manage union relations, working with and consulting legal counsel, as needed and appropriate.
- Support and provide guidance to the (SDHR) and (ERTM) in addressing staff and supervisor concerns; lead the management of complex employee issues, as
- Ensure sound, compliant performance management, progressive and fair disciplinary practices and processes.
- Provide guidance to HR and program management in processes and practices in accordance with obligations under the collective bargaining agreement, legal requirements, risk mitigation and management best
- Ensure that HR practices and policies promote and support diversity, equity, and inclusion in the agency and integrate DEI values and principles.
- Work with brokers, carriers, and third-party administrators (TPAs) to evaluate and plan employee benefits offerings that are financially sustainable, competitive, support workforce needs and retention efforts, and position the Agency as an employer of choice.
- Oversee and manage plan changes, including broker, carrier, TPA, recordkeeper, and platform
- Develop, solicit, and evaluate RFPs for the selection of brokers, carriers, third-party administrators, recordkeepers, and other plan partners, as required.
- Oversee plan audits, including the annual 403(b)
- Ensure plan materials are current and complete and are timely distributed to
- Plan, implement, and evaluate compensation plans and practices to ensure internal equity, external market alignment, sustainability, and achievement of agency compensation goals.
- Provide oversight to all employee medical, workers compensation and personal leaves, supporting HR staff in leave administration, as required, and ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and agency policies.
- Develop and support a high- performing, effective, collaborative, diverse, and engaged team; actively establish, promote, and support values of diversity, equity, and inclusion within the team.
- Provide technical assistance, guidance, and direction to HR staff and management in all aspects of the HR function, including, but not limited to, recruitment and hiring, employee relations, labor relations, compensation and benefits administration, and staff development and training.
- Evaluate team effectiveness, restructuring and reallocating resources as required to meet department needs and organizational demands.
Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree in a relevant area of study; or a combination of education and relevant work experience with a minimum of 5 years of working in a leadership generalist HR practice; program or project management role; payroll management/oversight experience; and related work experience ideally in a nonprofit organization.
- Demonstrate increasingly progressive experience in various HR roles and in managing all or most core HR initiatives.
- High level of knowledge of benefits plans and administration, related laws and regulations and, knowledge of employment and labor laws.
- Ability to present complex information accurately and in understandable terms.
- Demonstrated leadership and management skills and commitment to promoting, building, and supporting diverse and inclusive teams.
- Commitment to furthering diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workforce and services.
- Work productively as a member of agency management toward achieving program and/or organizational goals and outcomes.
- Work as a hands-on, collaborative leader, manager, and team member.
