Position
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Chief Programs Officer partners with the CEO in the development and implementation of Hire Heroes USA’s overall mission and impact objectives, priorities, plans, and initiatives while also being an active participant and driver of the company’s overall strategy. The Chief Programs Officer leads several functional Directors and manages resources to achieve Hire Heroes USA's program goals within defined parameters of efficiency and effectiveness. Additionally, the Chief Programs Officer plays a critical role in the development and maintenance of strategic partnerships and the development and fielding of new service delivery platforms, strategies, and processes. This leadership role is responsible for the efficient monitoring and growth of the core mission and service delivery areas while leading the innovation and expansion of employment services to meet the needs of the military service members, veterans, and military spouses we serve.

Responsibilities
Personnel
- Manage the priorities, professional development, and performance evaluation of the Director of Program Operations & Evaluation, Director of Capacity Building, Director of Client Services Delivery, and Director of Client Programs
- Collaborate with directors on departmental strategy and goals that support achieving larger organizational strategy and goals
- Establish performance goals, allocate resources, and assess policies for assigned functions
- Facilitate resolution of issues between departments and subordinate leadership
Leadership & Strategy
- Partner with the CEO on all programmatic and strategic issues as they arise; translate strategic goals and programmatic initiatives into tangible working realities for employees
- Build and maintain relationships with key partners, peer organizations, advocates, and funders that will support Hire Heroes’ strategy, competitive position, and continued success
- Serve as the operational leader for all Client Experience, Partner Experience, Program Impact, and Data Systems & Quality Controls
- Develop, establish, and direct the execution of service procedures and policies to support overall organizational objectives; direct a quality assurance program to ensure work is in line with organizational standards and values
- Recommend and implement program, process, and product improvements to enhance mission accomplishment
- Establish annual priorities and benchmarks, measuring projections against actual performance, and conduct regular reporting to both internal and appropriate external stakeholders
- Serve as a Subject Matter Expert for Veteran Employment Assistance and conduct media interviews as necessary
- Critically assess potential corporate and foundation alliance opportunities and risks, assessing them for strategic and programmatic fit
- Assist in grant applications and management as well as development and oversight of the annual Hire Heroes USA budget
- Build a culture of accountability at the business and personal level, by leadership and example
Desired Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience required; MPA or MBA preferred
- 10 years of professional experience, with at least 4 years of nonprofit, military, or veteran leadership experience Experience working collaboratively with senior-level executives
- Executive presence in verbal and written presentation skills
- An ability to learn rapidly, solve problems dynamically, unite diverse opinions, drive results, and build relationships with business partners
- Strategic thinking, knows how to apply knowledge of business and organization in decision-making; understands the interaction of multiple functions and how they are impacted by decisions; Views decisions in context of the company, not just own position or functional team
- Flexible and adaptable management style; proven ability to compile and present public briefings to senior leaders
- Demonstrated ability to think strategically and execute tactically
- Ability to work independently or as a member of a team, while productively engaging with others at varying levels of seniority within and outside Hire Heroes USA
- High energy, tact, cooperative attitude, initiative, and passion for Hire Heroes USA's mission are essential
- Strong organizational and time management skills with exceptional attention to detail
Work Environment/Physical Demands
- General office environment; temperature controlled
- Routinely uses standard office equipment, e.g. copiers, phones, computers
- Travel Required: Up to 10%
- Sitting for extended periods of time
Estimated New Hire Salary: $140,000 - $160,000 annually
Hire Heroes USA may offer additional compensation to include: Annual bonuses, merit increases, cost of living, special or extra assignments outside scope of the role, cell phone stipend, internet stipend, relocation, awards, compensatory time off, overtime, and gaining knowledge and proficiency through certifications and licensing.
