A post-doctoral research fellowship position is available to begin September 1, 2024 under the mentorship of Sandra B. Morissette, Ph.D. in her Trauma Health Research in Veterans' Experiences (THRIVE) laboratory at the University of Texas San Antonio. The THRIVE lab conducts research aimed at meaningfully improving the lives of individuals who have experienced psychological trauma, including veterans/military, first responders, and college students. In addition to trauma, the lab also focuses on understanding co-occurring addictive behaviors, functional recovery, and suicide prevention. Current projects focus on secure firearms storage and suicide prevention in veterans, the effects of trauma exposure on the well-being of 911 telecommunicators, and the impact of co-occurring PTSD and cannabis use on academic functioning in college students.

The post-doctoral fellowship is a full-time position for two years, with possible extension for an additional year. The fellow will receive mentorship in professional development, launching a programmatic line of research, grant and manuscript writing, and administrative leadership. The fellow will partner with Dr. Morissette to prepare grant applications for funding, collaboratively launch new studies, conduct analyses of existing databases, write manuscripts, manage the THRIVE laboratory, and help train and supervise graduate and undergraduate students. Preferred candidates include those with advanced data analytic skills (e.g., structural equation modeling, growth curve modeling, and longitudinal data analyses).

Required and Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. in clinical psychology strongly preferred, although other related areas will be considered (e.g., experimental psychology, public health).
  • Excellent oral and written communication and organizational skills are required, as well as attention to detail.
  • Must be skilled in all Microsoft Office products and SPSS, with knowledge in other relevant research/statistical programs (e.g., R, SAS, qualitative analysis). Ability to work well with others and work with multiple professionals is required.
