Basic Purpose
The Director of Human Resources supports the University mission by effectively managing a skilled and motivated workforce and fostering a supportive and productive work environment. The Director is responsible for all human resource functions, payroll and benefit administration, and employee relations.

Principal Duties & Activities
- Recruitment and Selection – attract, recruit, and select qualified individuals for open positions
- Manage job postings, the application process, and facilitate the hiring process
- Train faculty and staff leading and participating in hiring committees
- Serve as a resource and provide assistance to hiring managers throughout the process
- Employee Onboarding and Orientation – facilitate acclimation to the University’s environment
- Assist new employees with completion of essential paperwork and explain policies and procedures
- Work with hiring managers to ensure training is conducted
- Create a welcoming environment for new employees
- Collaborate with leaders across campus to develop orientation programs that integrate new employees into the University culture
- Employee Relations – promote a positive work environment, oversee appraisal systems, and serve as a liaison between employees and managers to address concerns and conflicts
- Develop initiatives to promote a positive work environment, including employee recognition programs, employee engagement programs, career development opportunities, and employee-centered policies
- Promote employee wellbeing through support services such as wellness programs, employee assistance programs, and addressing work-related challenges
- Identify and lead professional development and training programs to enhance the skills and knowledge of employees
- Develop and administer performance appraisal process to provide employees with feedback on their performance
- Lead training sessions for managers and employees on conducting performance reviews and setting goals
- Assist managers and employees with performance improvement and corrective action plans in a constructive manner
- Compensation – develop and maintain compensation structures for faculty and staff
- Develop job descriptions with clear expectations and alignment with University mission and goals
- Conduct salary surveys, analyze benchmark data, and make recommendations for competitive compensation packages
- Advise University administration regarding employee benefit programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, tuition assistance, and other perks offered by the University
- Strategic Planning and Analysis – develop evaluation processes and plans to achieve University and departmental goals
- Collaborate with University leadership to align human capital with University mission, vision, and strategic goals
- Provide data and analysis to inform decision-making related to human resources
- Develop appropriate assessment and evaluation plans to ensure effectiveness of the department
- Research and Integrate technology solutions to improve human resource functions for efficiency and employee experience
- Payroll and Benefits – manage payroll processing and administer benefits
- Educate employees regarding benefits and assist with inquiries
- Coordinate open enrollment process
- Supervise payroll and benefits administrator, who runs semi-monthly payroll for faculty, staff, and students
- Resolve payroll issues and ensure compliance with payroll policies
- Compliance – ensure compliance with employment laws, regulations, and accreditation standards; develop and maintain University policies related to employment
- Provide guidance on legal issues to minimize risk and liabilities
- Ensure confidentiality of all employee personnel records
- Report employee injuries and coordinate worker’s compensation
- Coordinate and respond to unemployment claims
- Assist with coordination of mandatory annual employee training courses
- Serve on Title IX Committee to develop policy, educate employees, conduct investigations involving faculty or staff, and provide support services
