Job Description
The Picnics in the Park Program Manager oversees all elements of our much-loved free youth summer meals program. The PitP Coordinator will work with volunteers to prepare and serve thousands of free meals to island youth over the ten weeks of summer when kids don't have access to meals in school.

POSITION SUMMARY
The Vashon Food Bank’s Picnics in the Park (known familiarly as “Picnics”) has been the island’s only free summer meals program since 2014. Free, nutritious lunches are prepared by the PitP Program Coordinator with help from program volunteers in the kitchen at the Vashon United Methodist Church and are offered to any and all island youth, along with engaging activities, at Ober Park and the Burton Adventure Recreation Area (BARC). Lunches are also delivered to Vashon Kids, a summer youth program operated by Vashon Youth and Family Services. In 2023, the program served lunch to over 200 island youth every weekday and served over 10,000 lunches over the course of the summer.
The Picnics in the Park Program Coordinator will oversee all aspects of the program, including weekly food purchasing, meal prep, meal distribution to multiple locations, scheduling and coordinating activities in Ober Park and program data collection and reporting. This is a fun, public-facing position that interacts with a wide variety of island families to ensure that our island’s youth remain active and food secure over the summer months!
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervise program staff and volunteers to ensure that meal preparation and distribution are efficient and in-line with public health standards,
- Work with VFB Volunteer Manager to recruit and schedule program volunteers to help with food prep, distribution, and activities
- Work with VFB Operations Manager to develop regular food purchasing schedule
- Provide clear communication with customers, donors and the general public on behalf of the agency
- Design and conduct client surveys in order to quantify and qualify program outcomes
- Collect and compile client demographic and service data to produce an end-of-season report
- Work closely and collaboratively with all VFB staff, community partners, and other nonprofits, as needed
- Understand and adhere to VFB policies around confidentiality and all standards of conduct as described in the VFB Employee Handbook
- Other duties as assigned
EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION & TRAINING
- Experience supervising volunteers
- Experience with data collection and reporting
- Requires valid Washington State Driver License
- Must be 21 years of age or older
- English and Spanish language proficiency preferred
- WA Food Worker Card

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING ENVIRONMENT

- Mobility and ability to be on your feet for 6+ hrs/day
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 50lbs and regularly lift 25lbs
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in inclement weather conditions as needed
PROPOSED SCHEDULE & LOCATION:
- 32-40 hrs/week
- Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
- Location: onsite at the Food Bank (10030 210th St. SW), remote at Ober Park, Burton Adventure Recreation Center (BARC) and the Vashon United Methodist Church (VUMC)
COMPENSATION
- $20/hr-$22/hr DOE
- Benefits: Paid sick-leave, holidays; cell-phone reimbursement, optional retirement plan enrollment
