Job Description Summary **
EXPECTATIONS AND NATURE OF THE POSITION
The Financial Aid Assistant Director has overall responsibility for managing and tracking the College’s student loan programs, coordinating and administering the Federal Work Study program, External Scholarships, and is the College’s Veteran School Certifying Official. The Assistant Director must exercise discretionary judgment in assessing student eligibility and must communicate accurate information to students and student applicants. This individual must remain knowledgeable of all types of financial aid including Title IV aid, as well as institutional and Foundation grants and scholarships, Veteran’s educational benefits, other governmental benefits, work-study opportunities, and loans.
This individual also serves as the Acting Financial Aid Director in the Director’s absence. Some evening work and travel is required.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES FOR WHICH THIS INDIVIDUAL IS ACCOUNTABLE
1. Responsible for the operation of the student loan programs including but not limited to:
a. Initiating and tracking student loan activity
b. Developing and implementing Financial Aid procedures
c. Maintaining the Financial Aid Procedural Manual
d. Designing and managing a student loan default prevention program
e. Overseeing default management and reduction strategies
f. Updating student information with student loan program lenders
2. Coordinates, processes and maintains various federal, state, and local aid per agency guidelines, laws, and statutes including but not limited to:
a. Maintaining and distributing federal work study allocations
b. Utilizing software to package aid, transfer, and receive financial aid data
c. Monitoring special eligibility requirements (i.e., part-time, SAP, R2T4, etc.)
d. Compiling various annual financial aid reports (i.e., FISAP)
e. Maintaining and distributing foundation, external and institutional scholarship
f. Maintaining the accuracy and confidentiality of student records
3. Communicates with students, parents, and various stakeholders daily to provide information and updates including but not limited to:
a. Conducting day and evening financial aid seminars
b. Developing and distributing financial aid publications (i.e., brochures) and programs
c. Maintaining financial aid webpages with timely and accurate information
d. Assisting with marketing, recruitment, and retention activities, as requested
4. Provides support for all areas within Mustang Central, as needed
5. Maintains current knowledge base of Financial Aid rules and regulations by participating in professional development opportunities
6. Safeguards institutional data and physical resources by securing assigned College assets
7. Processes requisitions and other required paperwork according to established procedures
8. Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications **
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge, Abilities, Education, & Experience)
1. Bachelor’s degree in a business, higher education, or related field
2. Two years of progressively responsible work experience in a related field
3. Experience with administrative computer software and databases (i.e., MS Word, Access, and Excel)
4. Effective oral and written communication skills with a diverse population (including presentation experience)
5. Professional and courteous demeanor
Equivalency Statement
For those candidates who do not exactly meet all the minimum qualifications, an equivalent combination of education and experience which has provided comparable knowledge and abilities will be acceptable.
Preferred Qualifications **

1. Experience in a College financial aid office.
2. Experience with the Colleague Financial Aid Module.
3. Experience with Federal aid software.
