Journeyman Technician
Job Description
Our team, supporting Military Sealift Command (MSC) in San Diego, has a position available for a Journeyman Technician to support MSC shipboard networks. This position will provide Tier 2/3 infrastructure for all aspects of MSC shipboard networks and will lead or be part of teams installing new or upgrading existing systems. This position will work closely with government and civilian management teams for the area to coordinate tasking, ship visits, and priorities. This position will also be responsible for responding to ad hoc queries for data and network configuration of the MSC ships in the Pacific Area of Responsibility (AOR). Other aspects of the job include, but are not limited to:
* Work independently in remote areas and travel within or outside the AOR
* Coordinate remote support needed with StratasCorp Technician Dispatcher team, as well as shipboard crew, to ensure work performed is in line with contract priorities
* Coordinate support with external computer network vendors for higher level technical issues
* Gather data as needed and provide to StratasCorp teams to respond to data calls
* Must possess current IAT II or higher security certification in accordance with DoD 8570.01M, and be able to get appropriate Computing Environment certification within 6 months of hire
* Must have 5 years or more of progressive IT experience in an enterprise-scale environment
* Must possess SME knowledge or skillset in some or all of the following areas: Windows Server (2008 R2, 2016), Windows 7, Windows 10, Microsoft Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange Server, Microsoft Hyper-V, VMWare Server, HBSS, WSUS
* Must be able to travel to Chesapeake, VA for one month at beginning of assignment for hands-on training with shipboard technicians
* Must be able to work overtime as required to meet ship's schedules.
* Must be able to ride ships if needed for critical work efforts
* Must be able to drive a car to destinations as needed
